On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Prints and Drawings presents the works of four fellows of the Academy, excellent artists, whose works marked the beginnings and the development of poster design in our region. The exhibition The Pioneers of the Croatian Posters presents the fundamental works of graphic design and its development in Croatia. A selection from the collection presents the best posters by Bela Csikos Sessia, Menci Clement Crnčić, Tomislav Krizman and Ljubo Babić. The visual ideas of ??these artists, great craftsmanship in their implementation, typographic and formal innovations, as well as their personal way of transferring of messages, have established new, high standards in the poster medium at the end of the nineteenth and the first half of the twentieth century. These artists have masterfully conveyed the sense of graphic form and its power of communication in to refined works, synthesized integral communication wholes..With their artistic, intellectual and pedagogical engagement, they have improved graphic design and paved the way for the further development of graphic design in our region.
