5th Croatian Drawings Triennial
Intimate small-format drawings
Miroslav Kraljević and Croatian contemporary artists

Continuing the tradition of the presentation and promotion of artworks by Croatian artists, and with the aim to affirm the drawings as an independent art discipline and encourage creativity in this medium, on the notion of intimate small-format drawings the Department of Prints and Drawings of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts organizes the 5th Croatian Drawings Triennial.

The confrontation section Miroslav Kraljević – Croatian contemporary artists is the framework of the manifestation. 15 anthological drawings by Miroslav Kraljević as 56 drawings by seven invited authors of different generations ranging from Biserka Baretić and Zlatka Kesera to Mirjana Vodopija, Davora Vrankića, Tomislava Buntaka, Ines Marijević Cakić and Iva Ćurić are showing the continuity and high extent of drawing skills, the vitality of the artistic speech as the variety of artistic idioms and styles in the art drawing media.

The section Selected Authors presents 109 art works by forty-eight artists. Drawings, polyptychs, drawing notebooks and drawing art books revel all the diversity of art poetics and individual expressions, from subtle linear or organic forms (M. Rožman, C. Vučević, I. Gobić, M. Živičnjak), records and notes of the human body (A. Vivioda, P. Jazvić, D. Cikatić Javorčić), abstract studies and variations of forms, volumes and lines (M. Čaušić, D. Trogrlić, D. Kanjski, K. Kovač, L. Limardić) to hyperrealistic meticulous annotations of the artist’s immediate surroundings, his experiences or his phantasmagoric representations (I. Jurić Kljajo, M. Šabić, S. Vidmar, D. Gašpar, M. Antolčić…). The February presentation of the drawing notebook by our prominent painter and printmaker Ana Feiner-Žalac introduced us to the Triennial.

The Student section joined the Triennial as a drawing marathon, which took place in Velika Pisarovina on the occasion of the Days of Edo Murtić (4 - 15 May) and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb under the mentorship of F.C. A. Zlatko Keser and associate professor Gordana Bakić. As part of half-century anniversary celebration of the Triennial the Department of Prints and Drawings of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts will promote the new just printed monograph, the drawing monograph by Zlatko Keser.

By attempting to display the actuality and perseverance of drawing as the most elementary and intimate artistic expression this year Drawing Triennial, trough generational, stylistic and thematic variety, shows the constant vitality of the drawing art creation.

At the opening ceremony will be handed the Award of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts as four equivalent awards and the three acknowledgements.

The exhibition will take place at: the Department of Prints and Drawings of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Strossmayer Square 12) and Room 10 of the Strossmayer Gallery of Old Masters of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Nikola Šubić Zrinski Square 11)
